If the right eye cavity is distinct from the other face shadows it
should have a different left eye position. There is another one which
could do this: . This has a circular
iris shape and because of the large ridge to its left would appear when
the sun was higher in the sky, possibly when it exposes the right eye
cavity. It is hard to check these however without accurate shape from
shading models of the face and shadow simulations. It could also
correspond with another cavity on the right:

which has the same orientation.
There are then multiple eye shapes consistent with the idea of appearing
in sequence as the sun rose, perhaps blending into each other.
