This next photo has the tone curve adjusted to bring out the "branches", then the tones are inverted and the remove noise function is used to sharpen. Proceed with caution though this does seem to bring out the "branches" more clearly. One test of biological origin is if these branches are fibonacci like in the numbers of "branches".
